Persian Classical Music Concert
A Contemporary Approach to Persian Repertoire of the 14th–18th Centuries
Neoclassical Ensemble of Tehran & Friends
Artistic Director: Arash Mohafez
The Neoclassical Ensemble of Tehran, bringing together some of today’s most authentic and remarkable young musicians from the Iranian artistic tradition, has for the past fifteen years been among the pioneers of the "neoclassical tendency in Persian music". This movement is devoted both to reviving forgotten old repertoires of classical Persian music and to composition of contemporary works inspired by this lost classicism.
In this concert, Arash Mohafez (santur), Farid Kheradmand (vocals, bendir, tombak, dâyere), Nima Noury (târ), Yasamin Shahhosseini (‘ud), and Tristan Driessens (‘ud) perform a contemporary interpretation of some Persian pieces from Ottoman manuscripts (14th-18th centuries), linked by non-metric improvisations, as well as examples from other periods. Several of the works performed here had not been heard for centuries until revived through the concerts and recordings of the Neoclassical Ensemble of Tehran. |
